Dougie walked down to the edge of the lake and slumped on the side. Watching the ripples as the wind blew over it, causing him to shiver a little. He sat thinking about things, his main thought was on what he was going to get up to that day. He had nothing to do, no work and no-one was out. He shrugged as he decided the best thing to do was sort his flat out, even if it bored him.
He sat for a while longer at the lake, watching as people passed him, looking at him strange for being sat on his own, but he didn't care. He needed some time alone every now and again and he wanted to be in the fresh air, the lake was always the best place for this. He took one last long glance around and stood up. He however decided that he didn't want to go back home so he sat back down again, casting his eyes around.

Larissa was not in a good mood. A letter from her future college had come today. She had been denied, and not only were the chances of her going to college pretty much blown sky high, but her chance to leave this town too. It wasn't that she greatly disliked this place, but she had dreamed of getting out as soon as it became apparent her family was never going to move. That was just the way she was though, always wanting what she couldn't have. Larissa had been the child on the step stool trying to reach the cookie jar that was supposed to be hidden from her. Not that she was spoiled, or at least, not exactly. She didn't come by the things she wanted easily, she had to work for them. She thought she had done a good job at school but....obviously she was mistaken.
She needed to get out of here, it was as simple as that. Crumpling the rejection letter in her palm, Larissa stood up. She didn't need to tell her dad the bad news, he could tell from her mood. She grabbed her car keys off the hook by the door, her letter still in hand. "I'm going out. That was as descriptive as she ever got with her location, if she said anything at all. Leaving the building, she walked out to her ford. For once in her life, she actually knew where she was going.
The lake had always been a good place for her to think, and when she first got there, she hurriedly pulled into a parking space. Surprisingly, it was actually a nice one, by the water. Turning the engine off, Larissa just leaned her head against the headrest with her eyes closed. She could already softly hear the water, and it did help her calm down a bit. Quickly, before she changed her mind, she got out of her car and started walking towards the water. Normally she would have gotten cold right away, but for now the breeze felt refreshing.
Not caring about her jeans at all, Larissa sat down directly on the sand. Sitting cross-legged, she uncrumpled the letter she held in a tight fist the whole ride over here. 'Mrs. Clarence, we are sorry to inform you that-' Not even bothering to read the rest, Larissa angrily threw it down. She had practically memorized it by now anyway, not believing it was real.

Dougie looked around as he heard a car pull up and stop. He turned back to the lake and smirked at his reflection. He turned back to the young female who had got out of her ford, he saw her throw a piece of paper on the floor. He stood up and walked over to her. Not good news then. He looked over at her then looked down at the floor where the scrumpled piece of paper was now rolling away due to the slight breeze around them.

Sighing, Larissa reached out to grab the paper, fully planning on trashing it as soon as it was in her grasp. Still though, she didn't want to litter. Just as her hand was about to reach it, however, the strong wind blew it out of her reach. Slightly growling under her breath, Larissa stood up to chase the stupid thing. Why he had been born with such rotten luck, she did not know, but she wished that it would hurry up and change quickly, Larissa's luck had always been fickle; but she was growing tired of it going up and down like a seesaw. Nothing was ever in the middle with her.
The wretched piece of paper had succeeded in escaping her, and instead blowed towards someone sitting by the edge of the lake. Jogging up to it, Larissa stepped on it, crushing it beneath one of her size nine shoes. "Stupid thing." Quickly stuffing it in her pocket and making plans to dispose of it the first chance she got, Larissa bit her lip. Instead of taking her hands out, she left them there, attempting to warm them. The wind was no longer refreshing; Larissa could feel it all the way down to her toes. Still, she was a bit reluctant to leave. The only place she had to go back to was home, and the option did not exactly please her. Instead she sat back down, now nextthe man who had been there before her, and the water. If she was warmer, she would have dipped her feet inside.

Dougie watched as she chased after the piece of paper, it stopped metres away from where he was now sat. She stood on it to stop it rolling any further, she put it in her pocket and sat down next to him. He looked over at her and smiled, unsure if speaking to her would be the right thing. He took a depp breathe and decided to speak. Hello. Was the only word that would escape his mouth at that point. He felt nervous and scarred.

Larissa turned her head when she heard someone say hello, It hadn't occurred to her before that she might be invading the space of someone who wanted to be left alone, but now the thought went into her head. After all, that's why she had come here, hadn't she? To get away from everything, and be alone. Who was she to say that this person want the same thing too? "Oh, hello. I'm sorry if I'm....bothering you, or something. I can leave, if you want." Larissa didn't really want to leave, but he was here first. She could always go some place warmer, like a Starbucks. Warm and with free wi-fi internet access. Somehow though, it still couldn't compare with the simple lake. Larissa would rather be here any day.

Dougie looked up at the girl before looking back down at the river, she was a welcome distraction for him, from all the stuff he had going around his head. He looked back up at her as she spoke, stuttering slightly. No it's no bother, I don't mind having someone around. Helps me get distracted from what I should be doing. He beamed at her as he picked up a stone and skimmed it across the lake, feeling like he'd just babbled completely just then. He blushed slightly as he skimmed another stone across the lake.
